“Stay out of the public eye”
These were the words Cosimo the Elder’s father, Giovanni de’ Bicci, said to Cosimo in 1429 when he was lying on his deathbed
Giovanni had founded the Medici bank, and now it was up to Cosimo to expand the business.
Did he follow his father’s advice? And why was he arrested and exiled from Florence a few years later?
The story of Cosimo the Elder is very fascinating and is, in a sense, the story of the “Rise of the Renaissance”
After his funeral, Cosimo was awarded the title “Pater Patriae”, Father of the Country.
On this tour we will follow the footsteps of Cosimo: we will visit his home; we will see artworks commissioned by him; you will learn about the investments he made, and you will see where he is buried. Last – but not least – you will discover who is buried next to him.
The tour takes you to three different museums and will take 3.5 hours.
