The first definition of a wine area called “Chianti” was made in 1716 and it was Cosimo III of the Medici Family who issued a decree legislating that only the four villages of Castellina, Gaiole, Radda and Greve were the officially recognised producers of Chianti wine.
In those days the Chianti wine was very different from today, it was made with both red and white grapes!
It was not until the 1800’s that the modern recipe of Chianti wine was born.
This tour will take you out into the historic area of Chianti. We will visit the Castle where the modern Chianti wine was born, and you will learn about this fascinating wine history. The BROLIO castle is still today an absolute top winery in Tuscany with an amazing feel of history.
The tour is made in collaboration with a private driver and will take around 8 hours.
