On this tour we will start at the Accademia museum, where you will see Michelangelo’s David and other splendid works by Michelangelo.
We will then move on to Piazza del Duomo and visit the Cathedral.
The Duomo – also called Santa Maria del Fiore – is one of the largest churches in the world.
It took hundreds of years to build and holds an impressive number of stained-glass windows designed by Renaissance artists.
You will be amazed when you see the inside of Brunelleschi’s Dome, frescoed by Giorgio Vasari on commission by Cosimo I of the Medici. Both Cosimo and Vasari died before it was finished, but Cosimo’s son commissioned the painter Federico Zucccari to finish it.
We will also visit the crypt under the church which, in fact is a former church called Santa Reparata. Here lie the remains of a construction that go back to the V. century, so when you visit the Duomo of Florence, you move from the V. century till 1887 (when the neogothic facade was concluded).
The tour takes 3,5 hours.
